Hello all...
Im just getting into this film/video/movie making thing.
Ive got a Digi8 camera - i dont care about super8/16/35 : I know film is best - but I kno wbugger all about it - and story matter most. SO ill film it on somethng - learn all the stuff I need to know THEN look for a proper camera etc.
I need to sort out pucker microphones - I understand the camera installed unit is pants. ( I suspect I can record onto the D8 tape though rather than buya DAT system )
I need to sort out lights - so look out BnQ
Id love to get my hands on a clapper board - but Ill probably have to make one ( unless anyone knows different ) ( OH why do I wnat one, because I do, thats why - its my movie ;-) )
SO rather than going to film school ( which might be nice - but I have a wife n kids to feed and the lottery is rigged against me ) and short of buying more books - the wife objects to the library : where would i get hands on advice for :
lighting? sound? clapper boards ??Scrips/writing ?
I have an idea for a movie - need some talent, some hand guns - that wont kill people or get me jailed and 2 months paid of work....lol

of course - search the internet. the information highway thing.
tried that. bloody useless. only place you can get the clapper from is the use - it cost 10times the purchase to ship it home.
I can buy a mike from jessops - and you can buy a woman in soho - neither are much good for long term usage. ( maybe the woman - but you might not enjoy the added extra special features )
SO, their must be a shop that sells this stuff.
AND, one of the bod's in here will understand mike's n lights
SO, play nice and let the new kid get his head from up his bottom before he throws a strop.
cheers

Stanleys 148 Wardour St sell clapperbaords of all different colours and sizes
02074390311
02077344411
lights it would probably be more useful if you said what you were trying to light, as light is a broad subject
get yourself some proper film making books, NOT THE GUERRILA's HANDBOOK or RODRIGUEZ
good recomendation Directing shot by shot by steven d katz
and poroducing and directing the shor film and video by peter w rea and david irving
also the five c's of cinematography is meant to be good as well
easiest wya to learn is to go out there and do it , if not on your film on someone elses www.shootingpeople.org
